Acoustic screens A73, road section B in Venlo

As part of the A73 road section B construction project in Venlo, Strukton Infratechnieken was commissioned by building consortium Strukton-Mourik Vof to work out the design and construction of acoustic screens along the new A73 motorway.

Project

The project involved a total of nine acoustic screens, three made of pure concrete and the other six with a transparent superstructure (PMMA). Five of these screens have foundations made of pure concrete. One screen required a foundation of steel bored piles in order to minimise the vibrations and construction noise in the nearby buildings.

The concrete screens vary in height from 1.0 to 5.5 metres above ground level and their total length is approximately 1,940 metres. The concrete screens are weather-boarded and are tilted backward a gradient of 13 degrees. The transparent screens vary in height from 1.0 to 5.0 metres above ground level and their total length is approximately 1,400 metres. These screens are also tilted backwards (sloping towards the residential side) but in this case the gradient is 10 degrees.
